Animal Information Report Writing

Here are our information reports about Polar Bears, Killer Whales and Piranhas.

We have been learning to write our facts in a report structure and in paragraphs. First we must write the classification (what it is), secondly the description (what it has/looks like), thirdly the location (where it is found) and lastly we write about what the animal can do.

We hope you learn something new while reading our animal information reports!

Inquiry Learning

We are learning about adaptations of animals today we learned what an animals adaptation is (see the adaptation song in the learning links tab to remind you) and looked at some creatures in the story Where the Wild Things Are.

In groups we each looked at the features the different Wild Things have and thought of why an animal has that particular adaptation. Each group came up with some fantastic ideas about the different features of each Wild Thing. Here are our brainstorms (please note: the focus of this activity was on team work and ideas rather than presentation).

Awesome Award Winners

Congratulations to our award winners this week! It was so good to hear the other children in the class commenting after the assembly that they too had noticed the kindness the award winners had been showing and the great learning they were doing!

A Cute Visitor!

Riley brought his Aunty's pup Reggie in for news on Monday! Reggie is super cute and we loved getting to pat Reggie and learning about how to care for a puppy. Thanks guys!

Maia's Inquiry Question

Why are there shells in the sea?

On Friday we explored Maia's inquiry question about shells. Miss McKenzie brought along some shells that had been collected while dredging for oysters. We looked carefully at all the different shells and together realised they were the homes of animals! We realised that all the animals we knew of that lived in shells had squishy bodies so they needed the shell for protection! Today we found out the animals with soft bodies that live in the shells are called mollusks.

Gymnastics

We are learning gymnastics! Mrs Hare is our gym expert who helps us out each week. We have progressed well over the first 4 weeks of the term. Check out our skills in the video.

Keep your eyes peeled for a video at the end of the term...We are sure we will see a huge amount of progress in our gymnastic skills and confidence over the next 6 weeks.

PARENTS: We will now be having our gymnastics sessions with Mrs Hare on Friday mornings it would be great if you could please help the children to remember to wear their gym shoes on Fridays rather than Thursdays for the rest of the term. Thanks!

Maths: Giving Directions

In the first week back this term the children were learning about position and orientation in maths. This topic is all about giving directions and following directions as well as describing the position of objects.
Using the correct language is important when giving directions. The children learned to use words like....
  • clockwise and anticlockwise
  • left and right
  • quarter turn, half turn and full turn
  • over, under, above, through, around, beside
  • forward and backwards
  • diagonal

Here is a video of us following directions and giving directions:
