This week we are creating picture books online using a website called StoryBird. Click this link to read the stories written by Room 3 2014

Today the children received their own log in details (user name and password) they may create stories at home and publish them when they are completed but must not work on or change their 'school' story.

Our Talented Performers

Each year Gore Main School holds a Talent Performance where the children get to show case their talents on stage to the children and parents. We were so impressed by the amazing talent we have at Gore Main School. Congratulations to all of those who performed yesterday.

8 talented children from Room 3 took part in the talent performance. Here is a movie of their performances.

Unfortunately performers Bella, Anouk and Millie were absent from the group photo taken at the start of the movie

Our Inquiry Experiment

We have been learning about the adaptations of birds that live in or around water. We learnt that ducks have a special oil that they spread over their feathers to keep them warm, dry and floating. We tested this out using a cotton ball as the duck and oil.

When we didn't put any oil on the duck it sank!

When we only coated the bottom of the duck (the part that the water touches when it swims) it turned over so the oil side was up and floated upside down! This was not ideal and the duck wouldn't be able to breathe or survive!

Lastly we coated the whole duck with oil and it floated on the top of the pond! Yay!

This is because oil floats on top of water!

Animal Information Report Writing

Here are our information reports about Polar Bears, Killer Whales and Piranhas.

We have been learning to write our facts in a report structure and in paragraphs. First we must write the classification (what it is), secondly the description (what it has/looks like), thirdly the location (where it is found) and lastly we write about what the animal can do.

We hope you learn something new while reading our animal information reports!

Inquiry Learning

We are learning about adaptations of animals today we learned what an animals adaptation is (see the adaptation song in the learning links tab to remind you) and looked at some creatures in the story Where the Wild Things Are.

In groups we each looked at the features the different Wild Things have and thought of why an animal has that particular adaptation. Each group came up with some fantastic ideas about the different features of each Wild Thing. Here are our brainstorms (please note: the focus of this activity was on team work and ideas rather than presentation).

Awesome Award Winners

Congratulations to our award winners this week! It was so good to hear the other children in the class commenting after the assembly that they too had noticed the kindness the award winners had been showing and the great learning they were doing!

A Cute Visitor!

Riley brought his Aunty's pup Reggie in for news on Monday! Reggie is super cute and we loved getting to pat Reggie and learning about how to care for a puppy. Thanks guys!
