What is a habitat?
River Monsters
Our inquiry this term is about animals that live in and around water with a specific focus on the habitats and adaptations of these animals. To get us thinking about inquiry questions we watched some clips from the TV programme on Animal Planet called River Monsters.

This is a book about counting feet on a beach. After we read this book in class we used the animals to make numbers.
For example to make the number 24 you could use:
2 crabs and a dog or
12 people or
10 people and 4 snails or
24 snails or
1 crab, 5 people and a dog etc
How many different animals can you use to make these numbers:
13 26 38 44 62 78 100 112 137
Here are some songs to help you learn your doubles off by heart.
It is very important that you know all of your doubles up to 20 (6+6=12, 7+7=14, 8+8=16, 9+9=18, 10+10=20) you must be able to say the answer within 3 seconds to know that you 'know' it!
A song to help you learn the time. This term we will be learning to read a clock to the hour (1 o'clock, 2 o'clock etc) later we may learn how to read a clock to the half hour also (half past 1, half past 2 etc)
A song to help us remember the water cycle

Create your own animal by switching heads, legs and tails. While you play you can read facts about the animals that make up your new animal.
Build 6 of the world's biomes by choosing the right plants, animal, temperature range and precipitation (rainfall) for each biome you build.
The difference between a biome and a habitat is the size. Biomes are large areas and habitats are inside biomes.
Example: A pond is a habitat for frogs. The pond habitat is inside the forest biome.
Choose animals and match them to the habitat best suited for their survival. The animals will prompt you with clues, and sometimes complaints!

What is a habitat?
SONG LYRICS
I got a habitat and it's my home
The happiest place I've ever known
A place where my friends and family have grown
I got a happy little habitat and that's my home
Fish got a habitat out in the sea
Birds got a habitat up in a tree
Some got a habitat with a flat screen TV
I got a happy little habitat and it's so sweet
In the forest
Or in the rocks
Or in the bushes where the lizards talk
Everybody wants the same old thing
Animals and plants don't really have phones that ring
Home is a place that I love
Some folks home is in the mud
Others like my friends live down the street in a shrub
Some have a happy little habitat with a hot tub
Everybody wants the same old thing
Animals and plants don't really have phones that ring
Some dogs like their habitats outside
Where the fleas like to jump on them take a ride
Others like the couch under blankets where they hide
I got a happy little habitat - habitat
I got a happy little habitat - habitat
I got a habitat and it's my home
The happiest place I've ever known
A place where my friends and family have grown
I got a happy little habitat and that's my home
Fish got a habitat out in the sea
Birds got a habitat up in a tree
Some got a habitat with a flat screen TV

And that's a home!
