Pizza Maths

We are learning about fractions in maths. Here we are cutting up play dough  pizzas for different sized families. It was important that each family member got the same sized piece. Fractions is all about equal shares.

Sharing Our Writing

We love sharing our writing with each other! Here we are today celebrating our incredible writing we completed today by sharing our stories with a buddy.
With Easter fast approaching and Easter Bunny being the hot topic we used our imaginations and wrote about the day the Easter Bunny lost all of his chocolate eggs. We had lots of great ideas about what might have happened that caused the Easter Bunny to loose his chocolate eggs and how the problem could be solved.

Keep your eyes peeled for our published writing.

Butterflies in Room 3 AGAIN!

On Monday our last 2 butterflies hatched from their chrysalis. We invited Room 1 and 2 in to see the first butterfly and they were lucky enough to see our second butterfly hatch from its chrysalis while they were in the classroom! We read our writing from our publishing book explaining the butterfly life cycle  to Room 1 and 2. We really enjoyed sharing our writing! Taysha and Cooper also read a book explaining the life cycle.

Karate Champions

Jacob and Anouk won medals at their karate championships in the weekend.

They also showed us their kata. Check out the video below. They are very talented!

Our Field of Remembrance

A field of white crosses has been erected on the hill by Room 6. These crosses are to remember the people from our Gore community who died in World War 1. Each cross has the name of someone who was involved in the war. It is very important that we remember these people.

Room 3 Explains the Water Cycle

Check out our latest piece of writing. The Room 3 authors have spent the whole of last week working away on these explanations. They have read many books, watched lots of you tube clips and sung the water cycle song to help them to learn about the water cycle and how it works.

They hope they can teach their friends and family about the water cycle.

Wow vs Blah Sentences

Yesterday we were practising turning boring sentences into sentences that make us go "WOW!"
We had a go at adding exciting adjectives (describing words) and verbs (doing words) into some sentences that were not very exciting to begin with.

Here is what we came up with in our pairs.
The sentence we had to transform from blah to WOW was:
The caterpillar eats.

The cheeky, rude caterpillar picked up a purple grape.
The fat, scrunchy caterpillar munches and nibbles, it chomps on the beautiful swan plant.
The green, stripey caterpillar nibbles the juicy, crunchy swan plant leaves.
The wet, squiggly caterpillar crunched on the wet, juicy swan plant leaf.
A cheeky caterpillar crunched on the wet, chompy leaves.
A stripey, wiggly caterpillar munched its juicy swan plant leaf.
A caterpillar munched and munched the green swan plant in one go.
A greedy caterpillar munched on its crunchy tall swan plant.
A bumpy caterpillar nibbled on the green juicy leaf.
A green, greedy, squirmy, squiggly caterpillar crunches green swan plants.

Room 3 Explains the Life Cycle of a Monarch Butterfly

We have been busy writing Explanations as this is the writing genre for the term at Gore Main.
An explanation explains how or why something happens or what something is.
We really enjoy writing explanations because it means we can share with you all the interesting facts we have learned so far this year.

Click on the picture below - it will take you to a new site where you can flick through the children's writing like a book! The site is called youblisher.

Brave Mouse Mimes

We have been reading a big book all week called Brave Mouse about a mouse who was hiding in the King's house. He heard squeaking and had all his people looking for the mouse. At night the mouse would come out and dance on the kings toes, he danced on Fat Cat's tail and danced on the cook's hat too. One night he ate the King's blueberry pie! Brave mouse was far too clever to be caught by the King or his people.

Today we have been learning to mime we mimed sections of the Brave Mouse book.

Mime: Dancing on the King's toes while he is sleeping

Mime: Dancing on Fat Cats's tail while she is sleeping

Mime: The cook finding the mouse

Mime: Brave Mouse eating the whole entire blueberry pie that belongs to the King

Mime: The King's people searching in the cupboards and corners for Brave Mouse

I'm Bursting To Tell You...

Our writing about the summer holidays. The children were only given a limited amount of time to write one thing they were absolutely bursting to share from their summer holidays on the first day of school this year. Miss McKenzie has finally figured out how to get this slideshow into Room 3's blog with some help from Miss Copland in Room 6! Better late than never. Keep your eyes peeled for more of Room 3's writing appearing on the blog (coming soon) to see how much the children have progressed in their writing. Looking Back On Our Summer Holiday on PhotoPeach

The Water Cycle

The Magic School Bus - Wet All Over taught us a huge amount about the water cycle

Here we have drawn a quick diagram together as a class to illustrate our learning from the You Tube clip.

Maisie's Adventures - reported by Room 3 students

On Tuesday Maisie come out of her chrysalis. She had two wings and two antennas. She had to flap her wings until lunch time. After her wings were dry she had a good fly for a long time. She glided across the classroom. She had a lot of spots. We let her go and she didn't want to go anywhere. She just wanted to stay here! The cycle starts all over again!

Reported by Hunter

In the morning I was going to look at the chrysalis but it wasn't a chrysalis anymore. It was a beautiful butterfly. It was fluttering all around the classroom then back onto the swan plant. It happened right in our classroom. The next day we had to let it go. Miss McKenzie was there too. It happened in a life cycle.

Reported by Jacob

On Monday the 2nd of March 2015 Maisie hatched from her chrysalis. At reading time the class got to hold Maisie the butterfly. Maisie pushed out of her chrysalis and dried her wings then fluttered around the classroom. I felt worried that the butterfly would crash! When I touched her it really tickled. I wish she could have stayed.

Reported by Riley

On the 2nd of March a monarch butterfly hatched in Room 3. At reading time we got to see and we got to touch the butterfly. It went on Maia's head and Anouk's head! The butterfly pooed on Bella. She flew onto Addison's bottom! Maisie fluttered around the classroom. Bella got to let her go into the wild. I love Maisie.

Reported by Abigail

Off Maisie goes looking for a spot to land....

Maisie thought that Maia's forehead looked like a nice place to land....
Maia wasn't so sure about that!

Can you spot Maisie?

Bye Maisie!

What do you think of our Room 3 reporters? Would you like it be to your turn next?
