Autumn Descriptive Writing

Autumn
As I glance around the top court I see crusty, rugged, boney trees standing. I can see the leaves fluttering. I see the pretty green, yellow and brown leaves flying around the children. I hear the people standing on the crunchy ice. I smell the icy air. I hear the leaves rustling on the grass, Johnny and Ben screaming and laughter of the kids running along the green grass. Kaylee’s throwing leaves like pixie dust. I hear fantails fluttering. I smell the hot fires and the wet, soaking leaves falling. I am hoping a tornado doesn’t hit me.

By Maia

Autumn
As I glance around the amazing tennis court at school. I see Thomas scattering crusty, rusty coloured leaves around. I can hear the leaves fluttering around me. I can hear everybody screaming and the fantails fluttering. I can smell the hot smoke. I’m hoping the snow comes down harder so the school shuts down.

By Brooke

Autumn
As I glance around the top court at school I see trees like death skulls and I see crooked, rugged looking trees. I see trees with no leaves. They are naked. I can hear the wind swishing through the oak trees. I can hear the crunchy, wet soaking leaves falling and I can hear the people standing on crunchy ice. I smell burning fires and I can smell grey, black, thick smoke and bread cooking.

By Millie

Autumn
As I look up at the leaves surfing down to me I look at Johnny chucking a big leaf. He is being a man with a sock on his hand. I can see the hall and it is frozen and a farm. I turned to Johnny and he is frozen. I can smell black thick smoke.

By Thomas

Autumn
As I look around the top court I see really crunchy leaves. I see smooth leaves and I found a helicopter leaf. It looked really, really cool. I threw it and it shined. I was really happy. I hear crispy leaves and I hear the birds singing. As I looked around I saw Lachlan dancing around like a fairy and a princess. I hope the sun dries the leaves.

By Aimin

Autumn
As I glance around the top court I can see the pretty leaves twisting  and turning all the way to the ground. The leaves are very, very crunchy like chips! Some are still green and they are still on the tree. Some leaves are brown, green and yellow. Aimin has found a helicopter leaf. It looks like a helicopter rotor twisting and turning. I can hear the kids screaming as they throw the leaves up through the air and back down again. I can smell tasty bread cooking in the microwave and wet leaves falling. I like autumn.

By Kaylee

Autumn
As I glance around the top court Cooper is dancing and throwing the leaves up in the air. There is one really shiny leaf and Riley is playing with it. There are lots of crooked trees around the top court. I hear the fantails singing very lightly and hardly. Jacob is proudly whistling for half an hour or longer. I heard one little blue bird in my head chirping. I hear the leaves crunching because Bella was scrunching on them.

By Hunter

Autumn
As I peek around the sports court I can see sparkly, twinkling leaves in the air. They have a pointy top and are orange, green and yellow. I hear the wind making the leaves fall off the trees and gliding through the air day and night. I feel the wet ice on the sticky, gooey, cold leaves. As Cooper prances and dances around the top court he throws the points and thin leaves. I wonder if the ice will melt.

By Jacob

Autumn
As I look around the top court I can see the leaves falling off the trees. The leaves are green with brown dots. I can hear leaves crunching everywhere. I can hear wind blowing.

By Fletcher

Autumn
As I peeked around the top court I saw Riley dancing around the top court. He didn’t stop dancing. He looked like a fairy princess. The trees looked like his castle. I can hear fantails fluttering all around me. I hear leaves falling all around me. I hear people shouting and screaming.

By Lachlan

Autumn
I can see leaves fluttering down from the trees. The leaves are naked and the trees are naked too. The children are laughing like witches when they throw the leaves around. I can hear the trees falling into bits. I can hear the leaves rustling as they fall. I can smell the burning leaves around me. I can smell the icy air and the burning fires from the chimneys. I am hoping we get to come here again.

By Anouk
Autumn
As I gaze around the top court there is Cooper sprinting around chucking leaves like pixie dust. I spot leaves fluttering around on the top court. I hear Lachlan screaming and sprinting away from the leaves like they are missiles. I hear kids running and crunching the leaves. I hear leaves fluttering down from the trees. I smell the steamy smoke and the icy air. I hope I don’t freeze to death.

By Riley

Autumn
As Riley pranced and danced behind me I looked around the top court. I was surrounded by thousands of leaves under me. I heard people screaming and cheering and running away from the leaves. I hear Lachlan running to help people! I smell yummy bread. I hope I get to eat it!

By Cooper

Autumn
As I glare around the tennis court I can see a crispy, crunchy and chippy leaf falling down. I can hear a helicopter fluttering in the air! I can hear leaves fluttering down. I can smell soaking wet leaves. I can smell the fires burning. I am hoping that I don’t get down leaves down my back!

By Addison

Autumn
As I look around the top courts at school I see the leaves fluttering down in front of me. My leaf is crusty like chips. I see my friends sprinting and throwing leaves around the tennis courts. I hear Room 3 throwing the leaves and screaming and whistling like the wind. I hear the fantail tweeting in the wind. I smell crusty leaves floating down in front of me. I can smell naked trees. I can smell rusty leaves. I am wondering if a tornado is going to hit us!

By Jaimee

Autumn
My leaf looks all crushed up and it is yellow with black dots. I broke it. The other one is green and it has broke too. I raced up to the top court and I picked up a leaf. I hear Johnny running around and screaming. I can smell the ice on the ground. I am hoping the snow will come down badly and then we will get the day off school.

We are learning about Area

In maths this week we have been learning about area.

Area is the amount of space a shape takes up.
Here is a shape on the carpet...its area is 5 Room 3 children

We have designed our own robots and found that they all had different areas.

Click the pictures to enlarge them...

Kids can you remember the area of your robot?
Which robot had the largest area?
Which robot had the smallest area?

Tell us in the comments!

Friday Quick Write - "I can't possibly write anything today because..."

As a Friday fun quick write the children had to think of and write 5 reasons why they could not possibly write anything on that Friday. They tried to come up with the most outrageous excuse.
Some children chose their favourite excuse from the 5 they had written to share with you.

The Robber Fox - Our Assembly Item

It was our turn to present the Gore Main School assembly last week. Every child in the class had an important part to play in the assembly. They were either a presenter speaking on the microphone, a reader or an actor or actress. Our item was a drama of the big book we read last week called The Robber Fox. Check it out below!

Internet Safety

Today John Parson came to teach us about keeping ourselves safe on the internet. We learned that we must keep our personal information such as our age, date of birth, address etc private. We have an invisible blue circle around us that keeps ourselves, our families and our friends safe. When we give out this information we step outside our blue circle and are not safe!

We now know that if someone is mean or asks us inappropriate questions (such as what is your address? What is your phone number? What is your full name? etc) on the internet we must not reply and get up and tell an adult straight away.

We watched a cartoon that helped us learn what to do and what not to do.

A Visit to the RSA

Today we were very lucky to be able to visit the RSA to look around the museum along with Room 1, 2 and 6. On the way back to school we stopped off at the cenotaph to look at the wreaths that had been placed there on ANZAC Day. This was a fantastic experience! Thank you to the Gore RSA for allowing us to walk through your museum.

Playground Descriptive Writing

Last week we went out to the school playground as a language experience before we had to write to describe the playground. It was a wet, freezing cold morning so the children came up with lots of great ideas to write about.

Have a look at the videos so you can see for yourself just how cold it was!

Please take the time to read our descriptions of the playground and leave us a comment telling us what you think of them.

We tried our very best to use lots of adjectives (describing words), similes and other exciting vocabulary to describe our playground experience so that our readers get a picture in their minds.

Can you think of any other good adjectives or similes to describe the playground on this rainy day? Tell us in the comments!

I hear the clouds ready to rain. The soggy clouds are like a cotton ball. I see the wet coloured bars. I feel like slushy snow.
Sophie

As I look up in the sky I can see flashy clouds getting angrier as I look up. I see my friends getting colder. I get colder too. I can hear the blazing wind in all directions. The old trees are moving in the wind.
Thomas

As I look around the playground I see my classmates shivering with coldness. I hear teeth chattering loudly. I can feel the wet, rough, brown and thick tree’s leaves hitting me like a hyena biting me. I hope a tree does not fall down.
Riley

As I look around the playground I can see the kids shivering as cold as a whole bunch of ice. I can hear swishing, whistling wind flying across the sky and through the trees like a butterfly as beautiful as me. The brown crunchy leaves are like chips twisting and turning and some are falling down. I can feel the grass hitting me like a thousand bees hitting me on the feet. I am hoping it warms up soon.
Kaylee

As I look around the playground I can see the sky looking like angry people. I can see the bars looking like a jail. I can hear teeth chattering and I can hear the bars going ting, ting, ting, ting. I feel long, very long, grass hitting my legs like a thousand bees stinging me. I can see the power lines swinging very slowly. It looked horrible. There was a sign saying “Beware! There is danger.” I love playing on the playground.
Bella

At the playground I see red and brown and yellow leaves twisting and fluttering to the ground. Wind is whistling through the trees. I feel as cold as Antarctica. I hope the wind will stop soon.
Millie

As I look up at the horrible sky I see my classmates shivering like ice cubes. I feel as cold as Pluto. I am so cold I nearly died. I hear everyone screaming. I hope I warm up soon.
Johnny

As I look around at the playground I see Johnny photo bombing and he looks funny. I can hear the slide rattling. I am hoping a tornado doesn’t come through.
Ben

As I look around the playground I can see colourful things to play on. I hear whistling wind coming closer to us. I feel colder than Antarctica. As I look up at the sky I see the screaming wet rain falling from two metres high.
Taysha

As I look around at the playground I see some leaves falling off the trees. I can see my class shivering like fizzing ice cubes. I can hear some bars rattling. I can see the grass scratching like a thousand bees. I can see the trees making so much sizzling wind. I am hoping that a tornado doesn’t hit me.
Maia

As I look around the playground I see a person shivering like a snowman. I can hear a tree falling down. I can feel the wet, slippery bridge. I wonder if my Mum is doing the washing today.
Addison

As I look around the playground I can see the trees swaying. I can hear the wind like a waterfall whooshing through the trees. It is freezing. I feel happy. I am wanting to go back into the classroom now.
Jaimee

As I look around at the playground I could see the yellow bars are wet and I can see the clouds are grey. I can see the clouds raining and it was thunder. The trees are really angry and it is raining strong. I heard a big bad wind blowing me away.
Aimin

As I look around the playground I can see my classmates shivering as cold as the North Pole. I see thousands of black clouds everywhere. I hear the bars squeaking and the thunder with rain and hail. The thunder is making fire on the crusty, old trees. I hope the rain stops by morning tea time.
Hunter

As I look around the playground I suddenly skid on the bridge but I don’t fall over. I can see a blizzard rolling in. The wind is whooshing like a tornado. I’m hoping it doesn’t pick me up in the tornado.
Lachlan

As I look around the playground I can see that the playground looks like a jail. I hear children groaning “I’m cold! As I look up I can see strong trees like a drink bottle about to fall over. I can hear the rattling chain going ching, chang, ching! The sky is groaning very loud like a bully growling at you! I wonder if we can have a hot chocolate back at the classroom. But no!
Abigail

As I look around the playground I can see my friends groaning. I feel shivering and my friends are shivering too. I’m putting my hand back into my pocket! It is freezing with water everywhere. The playground is empty. I can hear everyone saying “ahhhhhhhhhh” because there is wind in their faces and everywhere. Then I see a flash of lightning. I wonder if it will stop.
Jacob

As I look around the playground at my cold classmates I am shivering in every way possible. I think it is so so so cold out here. I can hear rattling chains. The sky is as angry as a bully! I hope we can have hot chocolate when we get inside. But we didn’t!
Anouk

As I look around the playground I can see people chattering. I can see the slippery bridge and I can see my class is freezing to ice. The tree’s leaves are falling off.  I am freezing when I am on the playground.
Fletcher

As I look around the playground I see my friends shivering. I hear the chains smashing together. I hear my friends screaming “I’m cold!” I’m wondering what the rest of the school are doing. I’m wondering if they are too hot.
Brooke
