Hydroponics Systems

We are learning about plants and water. We have learnt that plants use their roots to get nutrients from the soil and the roots take the nutrients up to the stem and then they go around the plant. We were surprised to find out that plants don't always need to grow in soil and some can grow in water if we put nutrients in the water.

We are trying to grow lettuce plants hydroponically and we hope to be able to eat the lettuces later in the term.

The lettuce plant is in perlite (a soft pumice like mix) we have a wick (blue cloth) to draw the water with nutrients in it up to the plant roots.

1.5L bottles

We are still on the hunt for 1.5 L bottles (2.25 L are OK also). We are planning on using them next week as part of our inquiry/technology unit we need 21 of them in total and so far have only 8! If you or anyone you know will be drinking fizz over the weekend please ask them to save the bottle for you!

Thank you!

Team Building

Yesterday afternoon in the sunshine we practised working together to achieve a common goal of stacking the cups in a pyramid shape without touching the cups! It was very challenging!

WANTED: Plastic 1.5 L bottles

Hi Room 3 Children
I hope you have all had a fantastic break over the school holidays! Next term (either the end of week 1 or week 2) we will be working on a project which requires each of you to have an empty 1 Litre or 1.5 Litre plastic bottle. I am letting you know in advance so you can keep an eye out for a bottle from now. If you are lucky enough to able to collect more than one please bring them along to school to share with your classmates.
I am looking forward to seeing you all on Monday!
