ANZAC Day

Welcome back to Term 2! In Room 3 we have been focusing on ANZAC Day.The children have been learning lots about the meaning of ANZAC Day and the poppy.

They have created a landscape of Flanders Fields filled with poppies after the war. Some children chose to paint their landscape of the fields at night and others chose a sunny day, some children even painted the sky at dawn as the sun was rising.

They had to think about perspective as they painted and realised the poppies that we way in the distance would look much smaller than the poppies growing right in front of you.

Didn't they do a fantastic job?

Poppies in Flanders Field on PhotoPeach

On Tuesday Room 3 learned about life as a soldier with Mrs McIntyre through a picture book of letters between a soldier and his family. The children then wrote their own messages home pretending they were soldiers. Come into Room 3 to check these out.

Reminder to all Room 3 parents and children:
School will be closed due to Teachers Only Day this Tuesday (28th April)

The Day the Easter Bunny Nearly Ran Out of Chocolate Eggs Writing

Check out our creative stories we have been working on over the last few days. We wrote these completely independently without any help from Miss McKenzie! Every creative idea is our own. We took lots of time to share our writing with each other to help get the creative juices flowing.

Miss McKenzie thinks we have fabulous imaginations!

The Day the Easter Bunny Nearly Ran Out of Easter Eggs

An Easter Treat

Today the children made Easter treats. They molded chocolate by pouring melted chocolate into a variety of molds. They were able to link this to our inquiry about water as water changes state often going from a solid to a liquid and a gas. They learned that chocolate can also change state by heating it up to change the solid chocolate to liquid chocolate. After they put the chocolate in the molds Mrs Petterson put the melted chocolate in the freezer to cool it down turning it back into a solid.

We made baskets to hold our chocolate shapes so that we could take them home. We loved out Easter treats! Thank you to Mrs Petterson for helping us out!! Thanks also to those who sent along the chocolate molds for us to borrow. We had so many arrive at school this morning that we weren't even able to use them all!
