Hydroponics Systems

We are learning about plants and water. We have learnt that plants use their roots to get nutrients from the soil and the roots take the nutrients up to the stem and then they go around the plant. We were surprised to find out that plants don't always need to grow in soil and some can grow in water if we put nutrients in the water.

We are trying to grow lettuce plants hydroponically and we hope to be able to eat the lettuces later in the term.

The lettuce plant is in perlite (a soft pumice like mix) we have a wick (blue cloth) to draw the water with nutrients in it up to the plant roots.

I hope you have good success growing your lettuces room 3. Its nice to see all your smiley faces, I hope you find it interesting to look after a plant and watch it grow, especially when you can enjoy eating it later!
